As centers of civilization became established, their food surplus, technology and wealth became a target for warring nomadic tribes on the fringes. World history is punctuated with periodic incursions by various tribes often originating from Central Asia, where competition for grazing land and resources was fierce. The nomadic groups such as Assyrians, Israelites, Aryans and Babylonians moved into urbanized areas and eventually became integrated into those civilizations. They transitioned from nomads and established cities.

During this era three of the nomadic groups who established themselves regionally – the Aryans, Early Greeks and Hebrews – were to become the base for Eurasia’s major cultural influences. They went on to found Indian, Hellenic and Judaic cultures.

There are several choices of readings below. You will select the one that interests you and that fits best with your learning plan and then write your journal reflection.

Use of Sources (worth a maximum of 20% of the total points). Zero points:  Student failed to include citations and/or references. Or the student failed to submit a final paper. 5 out 20 points:  Sources are seldom cited to support statements and/or format of citations are not recognizable as APA 6th Edition format. There are major errors in the formation of the references and citations. And/or there is a major reliance on highly questionable. The Student fails to provide an adequate synthesis of research collected for the paper. 10 out 20 points:  References to scholarly sources are occasionally given; many statements seem unsubstantiated.  Frequent errors in APA 6th Edition format, leaving the reader confused about the source of the information. There are significant errors of the formation in the references and citations.
