In this assignment you will write an Academic Essay on a given topic.
Word limit: 500 – 550 words.
ESSAY TASK:
Compare and contrast Tornadoes with Cyclones.
You will write a compare and contrast essay. You are required to present a clear thesis statement in the introduction. You then support your thesis statement in the body of the essay, using relevant ideas and evidence from appropriate reliable sources. Some materials on the topic are provided to you by your teacher; you should also use other sources to support your views.
You will be objective in your writing when comparing and contrasting ideas. You will choose either the ‘Block Method’ or the ‘Point-by-Point Method’ to structure your essay.
When you use someone else’s ideas and opinions, you must correctly acknowledge those through referencing. Citations MUST be included within the text and in the reference list at the end of the text both according to Harvard referencing style. (NB: Reference list is always a separate page).
You will submit the First Draft on myUni, receive feedback and revise your draft, and then submit the Final Draft on myUni.
Before submitting your First Draft, make sure that:
your essay is written in MS Word (English Version) and named as follows: your name, course name, assignment name, Draft 1 (example: Zhang Zihan_DT_AcademicEssayDraft1);
spelling and grammar are checked with MS Word spelling & grammar checker;
academic style is checked with Marking Mate (www.readingandwritingtools.com);
the document is checked for plagiarism using the Turnitin Tool;
you submit your file in Assignments à Academic Essay Draft on the course page.
Your lecturer will provide feedback online (through MyUni) using the correction code.
You will then need to:
revise your text and highlight the changes;
name your file as follows: your name, course name, assignment name, Final Draft
(example: Zhang Zihan_DT_Academic Essay_Final Draft1);
submit your file in Assignments à Academic Essay Final Draft on the course page.
