Merger as A Strategy In European market and Daimler
The general idea in the beginning for this merger was to allow both manufacturers access to the others market. Chrysler would get a foothold in the European market and Daimler would get a foothold in the American market. Chrysler was hoping to get some cheap parts and save some money in the European market and the German based company ended up not wanting to share. Chrysler ended up with some basic components
that were nowhere near what they expected. Daimler expected Chrysler to give them a big footprint in the American market but that didn’t come to pass either. Chrysler had to much competition in America as it was
and adding onto that competition was the Asian market. It sounds to me like Chrysler sold out to Daimler to stave off a hostile takeover and no one involved put in the effort to really look at how the future might unfold. Another big proponent of the failure was a huge clash of language, culture, ideas, and styles.
